Purpose

This workshop will take you through the process of new product from commodity to high value using a number of case studies of successful examples.  The workshop will cover

  • Introduction to new product innovation
  • Internal audit - identifying strengths and weaknesses
  • Understanding your market - identifying opportunities and threats
  • Who is the customer?  What are their needs?
  • What is the value proposition?  How can I deliver value?
  • Company customer conversations - how to articulate value

This workshop will be interactive and informative, providing you with an opportunity to try out new innovation approaches which can then be transferred back into your business.  There will also be time to network and understand innovation approaches across a range of sectors.

Why should you attend?

Identifying and meeting customer need is at the core of every successful business.  In globally competitive manufacturing improvements, the key to success lies in truly understanding the value of your product or service and adapting your offering to meet these.  This enables you to move beyond price based competition and create and capture economic value in global and competitive marketplaces.

We know that innovation is integral to business and cannot exist in isolation - it needs to have the right environment, support and methods.  A key barrier to innovation for many companies is the perceived high cost of undertaking it or uncertainty about how to approach it.  Often, there is considerable short-term and responsive innovation across manufacturing companies, but too often this is focused on cost reduction rather than new product innovation and needs to be long term, IP led and transformational.

This workshop will help you identify where you are already innovating in product, process or service and help you systemise your approach providing a robust framework for you to use back in the business.

Who should attend?

Those with responsibility, or involved in product innovation who recognise the need to have the right environment, tools and processes to successfully drive innovation in the business.  The workshop will be delivered by Innova Innovation who has amassed a wealth of experience in innovation management and development.  The SMAS team will be on hand at the workshop along with Innovation Specialists from Scottish Enterprise.
