Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI): Identifying industry challenges and exploring potential solutions
Join us to debate the challenge around hyperspectral imaging from an end user and Scottish sensor and imaging systems supply chain perspective, identifying opportunities for CENSIS strategic intervention.
Background
The inaugural meetings of the five CENSIS Special Interest Groups (Spokes) took place in November 2014. Subsequently, the CENSIS Research Technology and Advisory Group (RTAG) - the group that identifies target areas for impact and advsises the CENSIS Governing Board on technical issues - met to review the findings and recommendations that emerged from each.
The RTAG identified a set of multidisciplinary themes around which to coalesce active industry engagement, both in terms of specifying and delivering collaborative R&D projects and pinpointing longer-term strategic themes on which CENSIS may be ale to focus some of its funding.
Interactive Workshop
The RTAG noted that the two strongest crosscutting themes to emerge from the November meetings were centred around Hyperspectral Imaging and Asset Monitoring and Management. In both cases, these subjects are areas of technology or application with substantial levels of interest for each Spoke, coupled with the potential to tackle industry wide challenges via the Scottish supply chain.
Following a recommendation from RTAG, CENSIS will hold interactive workshops in each of these areas to capture industry needs and begin to define and develop the longer-term technology and research solutions to meet those needs.
Aims & Objectives
Please join us for a day of networking, discussion and debate in a facilitated, interactive workshop environments to identify and develop industry-wide challenges around the first workshop theme on Hyperspectral Imaging. A second workshop on asset management and condition monitoring is also planned and details of this event will be issued appropriately.
The aim of the day will be to identify new research challenges in the sector applicable to a wide range of markets and identify concrete actions through which CENSIS will support them. There will also be opportunities to build new consortia for collaborative project activity / creation and develop new supply chain relationships.
It is the intention to develop specific outline proposals for CENSIS funding, initially these will be feasibility studies with a view to developing longer fundable proposals.

This is a multidisciplinary event for industry and academic researchers, and will be relevant to members of all of the CENSIS Spokes:

Data Analysis and Visualisation
- Hyperspectral imagery provides a rich dataset presenting substantial analysis and visualisation challenges

Signal Processing, Communications and Networking
- To realise the full potential of HSI systems, there are trade-off considerations around real time versus offline processing and processing at the node (or on platform) versus streaming data back to a central processing resource.

Advances Devices and Fabrication
- Cost/performance trade-offs are likely to be platform and applications specific, with component level innovation potentially opening up new uses, enabled by disruptive advances in cost, performance and size.

Imaging and Optics
- Imaging and optics is at the core of HSI.

Remote and Distributed Systems
- Application to wide area survey and other stand-off monitoring for a wide range of markets and uses.
The workshop is designed to bring together the full supply chain – technology providers, end users, solution providers, platform providers, system integrators and academic researchers. You do not need to have attended the Spoke workshops in November to come to this workshop.
