Event Description
The Energy Catalyst has been established by Innovate UK, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to accelerate innovation in the energy sector from concept to pre-commercial readiness by providing investment and support at the time, in the way and at the scale innovators need it.
The Energy Catalyst is open to innovative businesses and researchers from any sector who can address the three major challenges facing the energy sector - the energy ‘trilemma' of:
reducing emissions
improving security of supply
reducing cost.
The energy trilemma is creating major global market opportunities for which the UK can develop and grow innovative businesses to deliver world-leading solutions. The objective of the Energy Catalyst is to accelerate UK business growth in this global challenge area by leveraging the best of UK innovation.
The opening of Round 4 of the Energy Catalyst has been delayed so that Innovate UK can take account of the recent announcements in the Comprehensive Spending Review. Innovate UK anticipate Round 4 to open in January 2016 with a reduced scope. Details of the scope and guidance will be available when the competition opens from: https://interact.innovateuk.org/.
In the meantime, the Knowledge Transfer Network, in collaboration with Innovate UK, is continuing with the Energy Catalyst brokerage events to ensure potential applicants are ready when Round 4 opens. These brokerage events are an ideal opportunity to find partners as well as hear about other funding calls that may be of interest.
Energy Catalyst Brokerage Events
The second brokerage event for the Energy Catalyst will be held in Edinburgh on 28th January 2016 by KTN, in collaboration with Innovate UK and Heriot-Watt University.
This event will provide an opportunity to hear the latest news from Innovate UK on Round 4 of the Energy Catalyst, hear about other funding sources relevant to the Energy community, as well as find partners ahead of the call opening. The afternoon will be dedicated to support for energy research in Scotland.
