We ran a valuable information session in partnership with The Edinburgh Guarantee this week, which explained some recent changes to the scheme.
The Edinburgh Guarantee was established in 2011 to address the needs of school leavers who were unable to move into a positive destination following the last economic downturn. Not surprisingly, the number of positive destinations is down compared to last year (Feb 2020 to Jan 2021). Where the employment rate in Edinburgh had been relatively high, during the past year Edinburgh has seen a 148% increase in unemployment claimants and the true impact of the pandemic will not be fully understood until the furlough period ends in Autumn 2021.
The City of Edinburgh Council has therefore decided to refresh The Edinburgh Gurantee which has evolved to help Edinburgh citizens, from all backgrounds, across the city to be able to easily access and progress in fair work, training or further education.
