Leading Across Boundaries: Culture, Joint Ventures and Influencing Key Stakeholders
CeeD members are invited to attend a half-day Leadership Workshop focusing on the practical realities of making collaborations and joint ventures work, and of bringing key stakeholders, including your boss or your board, with you.
Date: Wed 25th Nov’26 from 9:30am to 12:30pm
Venue: Partners&, Gateway East, Unit A, upper floor, Gemini Crescent, Dundee Technology Park
Dundee, DD2 1SW
More and more projects now depend on organisations working together: joint ventures, supply-chain partnerships, collaborations with universities, and funding that requires a partnership approach – not always an easy path. Collaborations are rarely derailed by the technical work. They are derailed by culture: the unspoken assumptions each party brings and, it turns out, those assumptions are hidden most effectively from the people who hold them.
Places are limited, so please register today.
When partners come together, in a joint venture or any other collaboration, each side tends to assume its own way is simply “the real world” and to pull the other towards it. The result can be a tug of war lasting the life of the project. It doesn’t have to be this way. Leaders can deliberately create what Edgar Schein, the original authority on organisational culture, called a “cultural island”: a shared way of working, designed for the joint purpose.
Collaboration also multiplies the stakeholders you need to keep on side, each with different priorities, and the most important is often your own boss or your board. This workshop will share practical approaches to both challenges, with time to apply them to your own situation and options to continue in depth with an ongoing workshop series.
We hope you can join us.
Learning Outcomes:
- Why collaborations stall at the boundaries, and how to recognise culture at work
- Seeing your own culture clearly – often the hardest part
- Designing a cultural island for a joint venture or partnership
- Understanding what really matters to each stakeholder
- Influencing upwards: making it easier for the boss or the board to say yes
This workshop is ideal for business leaders, senior managers and project leads in engineering and manufacturing who are involved in collaborations, joint ventures or jointly funded projects, or who need to influence people who don’t work for them.
Business Benefits:
- Collaborative and funded projects that deliver
- Less friction and rework at organisational interfaces
- Faster, better-supported decisions
- Stronger, more durable partnerships
- Better return on shared funding and resources
Workshop Leader:
This workshop will be led by Dr David Fraser, a long-standing associate of CeeD, for whom he runs two highly regarded leadership groups. David has a senior leadership background in engineering, manufacturing and scientific research. He assists a number of businesses and organisations with organisational and leadership development and runs a number of open programmes. Among other things, this workshop will draw on general management experiences from the 200+ organisations David has worked with. He is also the author of two books.
A workshop not to be missed if your success depends on working across boundaries!
