How do you avoid failure and ensure your success in a new management or leadership role?
CeeD members are invited to attend a half-day Leadership Masterclass on Wednesday, 28th May, focusing on the challenges and opportunities encountered when stepping up or into new leadership roles.
This workshop is ideal for staff members who are taking on or have recently taken on a new role involving a higher level of leadership and management responsibility than they are used to or where the new role is rather different from their previous experience, and also for those managers and leaders with responsibility for – and indeed relying on – their success. The level of the new role isn’t that important for the workshop: The key issue is the amount of “finding your feet” involved.
We tend to assume that succeeding in a promotion or a new appointment is just a matter of learning the new job the way it has been done before. In our fast-changing world, that’s rarely the case: Invariably, the new role hasn’t exactly existed before: Circumstances are different, processes are different, technology has moved on, the organisational structure is different, team members and peers are different and so on. The reality is the appointee has to figure out how to do the job afresh, as well as develop themselves into the role. This can be a lonely and sometimes ambiguous place – and a challenge for the organisation to support thoroughly.
This highly participative masterclass explores the issues and provides practical solutions to the problems faced by leaders stepping up or into a new role and outlines a systematic approach to accelerating their transition and ensuring its success.
Learning Outcomes:
- Appreciating that being in a promoted role isn’t the same as doing an old one with more “stripes”
- Being aware of the potential traps of carrying on doing what we’re good at
- Thinking in a more strategic way
- Developing an effective leadership presence, facing both ways (up and down the organisation)
- Recognising the central importance of relationships across the organisation – and managing them
- Systematically establishing with colleagues what your role is and how it fits in
- Using authority in the right way
Business Benefits:
- Derisking appointments into new leadership roles
- Making the most of the talent in your organisation
- Enhanced staff wellbeing through more skilful leadership
- Increasing the agility and flexibility of your leadership group
- Accelerating individual achievement, and through that, business results
Workshop Leader:
This masterclass will be led by Dr David Fraser, a long-standing associate of CeeD, for whom he runs two highly regarded leadership groups. David has a senior leadership background in engineering, manufacturing and scientific research. He supports a number of businesses and organisations with organisational and leadership development consultancy. He’s also the author of two books on related matters.
A masterclass not to be missed if you’re taking on a new role or managing someone who is!
