Event Title: Innovative Renewables
Event Description:
Join us for an exciting visit to Scottish Water’s £3M hydropower scheme at Whiteadder Reservoir - a pioneering renewable energy project believed to be the first of its kind in Europe.
This innovative system uses siphon technology to generate green energy while carefully managing water levels throughout the year. By harnessing the natural flow of water, the scheme is expected to offset nearly a third of the energy used by Hungry Snout pumping station, one of East Lothian’s largest water distribution sites. This not only helps to power vital infrastructure but also reduces reliance on the national grid, contributing to a more sustainable future.
During your visit, you'll have the opportunity to:
- Explore the hydropower system up close, including the innovative siphon and turbine technology.
- Learn from the experts behind the project about how it was developed and its long-term impact.
- Understand how Scottish Water is driving forward its renewables agenda to help meet its net zero target by 2040.
This visit offers a fascinating insight into the future of renewable energy and water management - don’t miss this chance to see cutting-edge technology in action!
