Design for the future of…sustainability

Event being run by Technology Scotland
September 6th, 2023 1:00 PM   through   5:00 PM

The concept of sustainability – environmental, social and economic – has seen growing global focus over the last decade.

This has been driven by an increasing acceptance that linear economy models will ultimately lead to irreversible damage to our planet, further fuelled by national policy changes and increasing consumer demand for sustainable products.

The role of design in this transition cannot be underestimated. From designing for disassembly, recycling, and disposal, to incorporation of alternative materials and prototyping of patented materials and products, design, and its close interplay with manufacturing, will be crucial.

Technology Scotland is running this event which will bring together a panel of experts to discuss the role of design in creating the sustainable and responsible products of the future. As well as exploring some of the fundamental technological design approaches, they will also discuss additional impacting factors such as legislation, social policy, user behaviour and economic drivers. The event will also be an opportunity for innovators to connect with local design and manufacturing capability.

Panellists:

  • - Ben Durack, Director, Origin Plastics Ltd
  • - TBC, Zero Waste Scotland
  • - Robert Lynch, Senior Design Engineer, NMIS
  • - Mark Ravilious, Founding Director, Intra Drive Ltd
