
For over half a century Angus Training Group Ltd (ATG) has provided apprenticeships to almost 2,000 young people as their first step to career in engineering.
Established in 1966, ATG is an employer led training provider for the engineering Industry in North East Scotland. With charitable status, it provides businesses with a locally based training provision, committed to delivering a wide range of training to nationally recognised standards, at a realistic and competitive cost.
Throughout the year, it offers local schools and career advisors support and is a recognised source for recruiting apprentice engineers.
ATG’s long experience of local industry and fully qualified staff offers a high quality, practical based approach to training which meets employers’ demands for a skilled and flexible work force.
ATG’s facilities are equipped with a workshop that has had continual investment in modern plant and equipment to accommodate up to 75 apprentices. In addition, there are classroom facilities and rooms dedicated to computing, short courses are regularly available including post Apprenticeship training, First Aid, Supervisory Skills, CAD and Abrasive Wheels
As a non-profit making company, ATG is financially supported by its members and has access to Skills Development Scotland funding for apprentices following an Engineering Modern Apprenticeship. It was one of the first organisations in the UK to gain Approved Training Organisation status from what was the Manpower Services Commission for Youth Training (now Licensed Provider of Modern Apprenticeships for Skills Development Scotland). ATG is also an accredited SEMTA and EAL centre. The group consistently perform well in the many audits and compliance checks and have recently secured the highest points in the national SDS Contract Award table. ATG Apprentices are regularly successful in the various Apprenticeship Awards and many of the world’s leading Engineering and Oil & Gas companies are managed by ATG alumni.
The charity is currently undergoing a program of investment and are part of the Tay Cities bid for Engineering. The emphasis for the next 50 years is to remain current and relevant to the membership, providing the region’s businesses with growth opportunities through skilled labour.
