Jim McDonald has been a health and safety professional for over 30 years, having worked in the Safety Department of the University of Strathclyde and, subsequently, managing the Health and Safety Services Department at the University of the West of Scotland for 18 years.  He is currently the Head of Safety, Environment and Continuity at the University of Stirling.  He is also an Associate Lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University, teaching on the BSc in Health and Safety Management course.

He has a BSc Degree in Occupational Safety and Health from the University of the West of Scotland.  He is a Chartered Member of the Institution for Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) and a Member of the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (MREHIS). 

He will give an overview of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations, drawing on his experiences of what can go wrong when they are not properly implemented.  This will include some of the issues arising from fieldwork, disease and business travel.
