You are warmly invited to join us for our May Open Meeting when Muhammad Zeeshan Shakir, University of the West of Scotland will deliver the above talk.  Please join us on Thursday 18th May, 2017 at University of the West of Scotland, Paisley CampusThe session will run 10.00 - 12.00 with Q&A and the opportunity for tea/coffee and networking from 09.30.

The standardisation process of the next generation of wireless networks, referred to as 5G networks, has already started and these are expected to be deployed starting approximately 2020 in Europe.  The concept of ubiquitous connectivity for smart and resilient cities and community is perceived as a key enabling application to turn the future of 5G connectivity vision into reality.  However, the orchestration of potential disruptive wireless technologies remains to be a significant challenge to achieve such ambitious aim and ensure their compatibility with the future generations of network to come.  It is therefore time for 5G stakeholders from industry, academia and beyond to research and investigate, the way forward to achieve the 5G+ vision of a globally, fully connected community in future smart and resilient cities.

Driven by the spread use of flying platforms such as drones / Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and balloons, either in military or civil application and the challenges that the future 5G and beyond networks exhibit, at UWS, the focus is to research, design and develop smart scalable unified wireless platforms by integrating flying platforms into 5G networks and applications.

This clinic will provide an overview of flying platform-enabled 5G networks and their use cases and applications in smart cities, key requirements of ubiquitous networks and challenges / issues.  University of the West of Scotland would like to explore future opportunities for joint projects and collaborations with SMEs, industries, innovation centres, local government and other academic partners.  Therefore, everyone is welcome to attend.

This clinic is offered by Dr Muhammad Zeeshan Shakir, Lecturer in Computer Networks at the School of Engineering and Computing, University of the West of Scotland, Paisley Campus.  At present, he is leading the cross-disciplinary vision of the Centre of excellence for Connected Resilience Cities Emulation (CORE) which is perceived as part of state-of-the-art larger, multidisciplinary initiative Construction Innovation, Technologies and Advanced Digital Engineering Laboratories (CITADEL) in UWS, Hamilton Campus.
