Enablers for a Circular Economy

Zero Waste Scotland lead on the delivery of Scotland’s Making Things Last, A Strategy for a Circular Economy which focuses on four key industry areas, construction, energy infrastructure, food and drink and remanufacturing. This event is an opportunity for CEED members to

  • learn how the Circular Economy Business Service free support can help SMEs and their customers achieve a low carbon business model
  • Circular Economy Investment Fund which offers up to £1million to SMEs.

Guest speaker: Professor Chris Speed, Chair of Design Informatics, University of Edinburgh

The main speaker for the event is Professor Chris Speed, Chair of Informatics at Edinburgh University. His presentation will give examples from companies that he has worked with exploring how big data technology has the solutions to help keep materials in use for longer, assist with the recovery of materials for maintenance, repair and overhaul and how new business models like reverse logistics can positively impact the bottom line of businesses in Scotland.

2.10pm – 2:50pm – Presentation with Professor C. Speed, Chair of Design Informatics, University of Edinburgh on the topic of "Digital technology and an enabler for the circular economy"

2:50pm – 3:10pm – Presentation by Peter McCafferty, Project Manager - Circular Economy Business Support, Zero Waste Scotland on reverse logistics and a case study about DHL

3.10pm - 3:25pm - Presentation from Lynn Wilson, Sector Manager - Manufacturing, Zero Waste Scotland, on Circular Economy aound the government's Manufacturing Action Plan and the various support structures that ZWS can offer. 

3:25pm - 4:00pm - Q&A and networking
