Mental health has a huge impact on how we feel, think, behave and interact with others, yet we often neglect our mental wellbeing. Mental wellness is vital to ensure we live positive lives as poor mental health will ultimately affect productivity, physical health, interpersonal relationships and our ability to overcome adversity.

Life has changed considerably in these last few months and as the world slowly emerges from lockdown, we are moving into a world that in many ways, will never be the same.

Join us for an introduction to Mental Health & Mindfulness to learn how to best support your mental wellbeing during this challenging time and beyond.

We will discuss:

  • What is mental health?
  • What signs should we be looking out for?
  • What can we do to manage feelings of anxiety, depression or isolation?
  • How can we support our own mental wellbeing as well as that of others around us?
  • What is Mindfulness and how can it help us?

The session will also involve some Mindfulness practice in short exercises that can be easily implemented into the working day, such as body scanning and breathing exercises. No previous experience of mindfulness practice is necessary. Our trainers will guide you through the session.

The session will be run by Dr Robin Ion and Professor Ross Deuchar.

Dr Robin Ion is a senior lecturer in Mental Health at UWS and has extensive experience in the design, delivery and review of mental health nurse education. Professor Ross Deuchar is an expert social scientist with research in youth crime, policing and social justice. He is also a certified Mindfulness Coach with Mindfulness Scotland and has a keen interest in the application of relaxation techniques to manage emotion.

The session is free to attend but advanced registration is required.  A link to join the webinar will be sent upon registration.
