Leonardo enjoys a Defence Industry reputation for professional Project Management. In their GEC-Marconi days, this was closely linked to Product Lifecycle Management to forge a capability for managing sequential progress of distinct work packages: a classic Waterfall model.
In practice, the deployment of this approach had challenges including:
- Being inappropriate for long projects with changing requirements
- Difficulty in changing poorly considered artefacts at concept stage
- Working software being produced late in the Lifecycle
- Industry trend away from large, well defined projects
In 2018, as a direct consequence, Leonardo made significant investment in Information Technology around tools such as S4HANA, ProMapp and Teamcenter Unified. In order to derive maximum and sustainable benefit, a Business Transformation Team was formed and coached in Agile Project Management.
Leonardo would like to share how their Business Transformation Team adopted Agile, applied it to current Operational Challenges, the impacts and the future plans for sustainable change and continuous improvement.
