Design and Manufacture are essential to Scottish economy. A rising demand for Intelligent Design and Manufacturing has been seen due to the increased requirements from customisation, flexibility, efficiency, productivity, responsiveness, and cost-effectiveness. These requirements become urgent in the international race to the next industrial revolution. The Industry 4.0 initiative aims at upgrading the entire manufacturing value chain through turning the factory floor into an innovation centre capable of mass customisation and digital business.

This workshop on Smart Design and Manufacturing brings together Industry experts and Scottish academics to discuss key themes of particular relevance and value to the Scottish economy. Its aim is to establish a common understanding about the state of the field in Scotland, highlight issues and challenges as well as discuss possible solutions that will be of interest to SME’s members of the public and other academics.

The workshop will provide an opportunity to make new contacts, exchange the latest research outcomes and achievements and share ideas about the direction the Scottish Design & Manufacturing community should be taking to ensure a prosperous future for our country.
