SUMMARY:261125 - Leading Across Boundaries with Dr David F
 raser
DESCRIPTION:Leading Across Boundaries: Culture\, Joint Venture
s and Influencing Key Stakeholders\n \n CeeD membe
rs are invited to attend a half-day Leadership Wor
kshop focusing on the practical realities of makin
g collaborations and joint ventures work\, and of
bringing key stakeholders\, including your boss or
  your board\, with you.\n \n Date: Wed 25th Nov&rs
 quo\;26 from 9:30am to 12:30pm\n \n Venue: Partner
 s&amp\;\, Gateway East\, Unit A\, upper floor\, Ge
 mini Crescent\, Dundee Technology Park\n Dundee\,
DD2 1SW\n \n More and more projects now depend on
organisations working together: joint ventures\, s
 upply-chain partnerships\, collaborations with uni
versities\, and funding that requires a partnershi
p approach &ndash\; not always an easy path. Colla
borations are rarely derailed by the technical wor
 k. They are derailed by culture: the unspoken assu
mptions each party brings and\, it turns out\, tho
se assumptions are hidden most effectively from th
 e people who hold them.\n \n Places are limited\,
so please register today.\n \n When partners come
together\, in a joint venture or any other collabo
ration\, each side tends to assume its own way is
simply &ldquo\;the real world&rdquo\; and to pull
the other towards it. The result can be a tug of w
ar lasting the life of the project. It doesn&rsquo
\;t have to be this way. Leaders can deliberately
create what Edgar Schein\, the original authority
 on organisational culture\, called a &ldquo\;cultu
ral island&rdquo\;: a shared way of working\, desi
gned for the joint purpose.\n \n Collaboration als
o multiplies the stakeholders you need to keep on
side\, each with different priorities\, and the mo
st important is often your own boss or your board.
This workshop will share practical approaches to
both challenges\, with time to apply them to your
own situation and options to continue in depth wit
h an ongoing workshop series.\n \n We hope you can
  join us.\n \n Learning Outcomes:\n \n - Why colla
borations stall at the boundaries\, and how to rec
ognise culture at work\n \n - Seeing your own cult
 ure clearly &ndash\; often the hardest part\n \n -
Designing a cultural island for a joint venture o
 r partnership\n \n - Understanding what really mat
ters to each stakeholder\n \n - Influencing upward
s: making it easier for the boss or the board to s
ay yes\n \n This workshop is ideal for business le
aders\, senior managers and project leads in engin
eering and manufacturing who are involved in colla
borations\, joint ventures or jointly funded proje
cts\, or who need to influence people who don&rsqu
 o\;t work for them.\n \n Business Benefits:\n \n -
Collaborative and funded projects that deliver\n
\n - Less friction and rework at organisational in
 terfaces\n \n - Faster\, better-supported decision
 s\n \n - Stronger\, more durable partnerships\n \n
  - Better return on shared funding and resources\n
\n Workshop Leader:\n \n This workshop will be le
 d by Dr David Fraser\, a long-standing associate o
f CeeD\, for whom he runs two highly regarded lead
ership groups. David has a senior leadership backg
round in engineering\, manufacturing and scientifi
c research. He assists a number of businesses and
organisations with organisational and leadership d
evelopment and runs a number of open programmes. A
mong other things\, this workshop will draw on gen
eral management experiences from the 200+ organisa
tions David has worked with. He is also the author
of two books.\n \n A workshop not to be missed if
your success depends on working across boundaries
 !\n \n &ldquo\;Most useful hour and a half I&rsquo
 \;ve had in 30 years.&rdquo\;\n \n Dave Pearson\,
Group Sustainable Development Director\, Star Refr
 igeration Ltd\n \n &ldquo\;David has channelled th
e experiences of the participants and his own expe
rtise very well to form a valuable conversation fo
 r all the members.&rdquo\;\n \n David Equi\, Manag
 ing Director\, Equi&rsquo\;s Ice Cream\n \n &ldquo
\;David brings his coaching and facilitation skill
s to our peer group\, not only by providing his kn
owledge and expertise\, but\, perhaps more importa
ntly\, having the rare knack of asking the right p
robing questions of us as individuals and as a gro
up.&rdquo\;\n \n Steve Ross\, CEO at Shackleton Te
 chnologies
